In 2015, Leah Kolb (Curator of Exhibitions at Madison Museum of Contemporary Art) and Jason S. Yi formed Plum Blossom Initiative (PBI) to provide professional development opportunities for emerging contemporary artists in the Milwaukee area. PBI's main project, Bridge Work, is a 9-month professional development program that encourages the selected artists to create new bodies of work while receiving professional support such as the facilitation of important networking opportunities, studio visits, and critiques as well as providing studio spaces critical to the production of work.

For the 2018/19 Bridge Work, PBI and Var Gallery have partnered in order to provide further support to the three selected Bridge Work 04 artists. who exhibited their work Sept 29 to Nov 3, 2018 at Var West Gallery.

Hawthorn Contemporary is an art venue dedicated to presenting experimental and exploratory contemporary art. Hawthorn is committed to continuing the previous gallery The Pitch Project’s tradition of providing a platform for culture producers and artists working in the national and international arenas. The exhibitions and related programming seek to engage the arts community and foster dialogues that are reflective of the current conditions of our society.
